Things That Make Me Go Hmmm……

Every now and then I get random thoughts . Things that make me think long and hard; things that make me say Hmmmm… I thought I would take a few minutes and share some of them with you.

  • Why do some people with health insurance skip their cancer screening exams (like  mammograms, pap smears or colonoscopies).   It’s one of the few things that insurance covers without a copay or deductible. Not getting them is like throwing money in the garbage. Plus when something is picked on a screening exam it is usually much smaller than if it’s caught after you have a problem. Early detection saves lives.  When you go to the doctor after finding a problem, the test is no longer free. Its subject to a copay or deductible. Hmmmm…

  • I don’t understand how someone can go through a full course of treatment for one cancer, then continue to smoke cigarettes , pipes or cigars. To me, its like putting a stick of dynamite in your mouth and lighting it just after you finished fighting the biggest fire you’ve ever seen. Tobacco is one of the few things we know for sure causes cancer. If there was ever a time to quit. Now is the time. Hmmm…

  • Why do some people go through an entire course of cancer treatment without telling anyone close to them what is going on?  It’s like showing up for war and leaving your army of fighters behind. Fighting cancer is a group effort. You need those on the front lines fighting with you and those behind giving support.  Hmmm…

  • Why is chemotherapy given in a large room full of chairs where everyone can see and hear what’s going on with you? Its like giving your medical history over the loudspeaker. Personally, I don’t want to hear about the guy in the chair on my right’s diarrhea all night or the girl on my left’s visit to the emergency room last night.  So much for privacy. Hmmm…

  • Why is a bald head on a female cancer patient beautiful, but if she wears a bald head any other time, people think she is gay or looks hard? Can’t a woman have a unique style? Hmmm…

  • Why are some patients more afraid of the cancer treatment, than they are of their cancer. Don’t they know that cancer doesn’t just go away on its own. Ignoring the doctor and not showing up for tests and treatments is dangerous. Its like committing a slow painful suicide. Treating cancer does not guarantee 100% cure. But not treating cancer will eventually result in 100% death. I would rather be alive with side effects rather than dead of disease. Hmmm…

Just a few things that I’ve been pondering. I hope I didn’t offend anyone. Let me know what you think.
